About Barbers

$16.99

DERT’s repackaged version of Mark Twain’s little known short story About Barbers captures the universal experience any man that has ever visited a barber can relate to. From how the shop is described to the methods of those who use a barber, this story is something everyone can relate to, and pays homage to the American barber shop that never changes.

Proceeds from the sale of this book help fund the donation of our specially designed children’s books to barbershops in at-risk communities nationwide. DERT’s social mission is to ensure that all children identify as readers by having access to books and being read to on a regular basis. Reading together is vital for all children through their preschool years and beyond. DERT publishes a unique line of books and learning tools designed to engage families in reading through all stages of life.

Description

This DERT book was designed by Jessie Yao, a communication design student from Beijing, Chin. Her book design and illustrations are inspired by the timelessness of barbershops, bringing to life Twain’s tongue-in-cheek telling of a barber customers experience at the barbershop and in the barber chair. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book goes to the designer in support of their career advancement.

This 50-page page paperback is part of a social venture project to spread literacy to families in underserved communities. DERT works with emerging designers to create unique, customized books. Each DERT book features the design and conceptual artwork created by graphic design students. With each purchase, proceeds from the sale are donated to help support the cause of early childhood literacy.
