Creating a New Vision for DERT in the Barbershop

Parsons School of Design students recently conducted a project which explored a new marketing strategy for DERT in the barber industry. DERT co-founder, Marcos Chavez worked with his communication design students challenging them to create a promotion campaign that positioned DERT within the barber industry and connected DERT’s social mission of early-childhood literacy with Barber’s and their customers world-wide. Students responded with innovative campaigns that envisioned barbershops as a dynamic retail environment where DERT’s unique book products could be integrated and literacy programs activated.

The class presented their final projects at a interactive group critique at the design firm TODA where creative professionals met one-on-one with students to review and critique their projects. Design solutions included a broad range of innovative concepts that included book clubs for dads, barbershop children’s book libraries, and virtual reality applications integrated into the barbershop waiting room experience. Great job to all the students!
