The Boy and His Tiger is the story about being brave in times of fear. After trying to escape a tiger in his dreams night after night, the boy decides to stop running from what he fears and toward what he desires.

Proceeds from the sale of this book help fund the donation of our specially designed children’s books to barbershops in at-risk communities nationwide. DERT’s social mission is to ensure that all children identify as readers by having access to books and being read to on a regular basis. Reading together is vital for all children through their preschool years and beyond. DERT publishes a unique line of books and learning tools designed to engage families in reading through all stages of life.

This book was designed by Sage Smith, a Brooklyn based communication design student. Through her design, Sage evokes themes of childhood and magic in book designs reimagined for modern audiences. Her illustrations take an easeful approach with a minimalist style that highlights key themes of each story she visualizes.

 

This 30-page paperback is part of a social venture project to spread literacy to families in underserved communities. DERT works with emerging designers to create unique, customized books. Each DERT book features the design and conceptual artwork created by graphic design students. With each purchase, proceeds from the sale are donated to help support the cause of early childhood literacy.
