The Origin Of Earth

$15.99

The Origin of Earth brings to life a little known Tuskegee Legend that tells the tale as to how the contents on earth were created. Cobey Lusinger illustrates this story with a modern perspective using a contemporary illustration style that endears you to the flock of characters that worked together to shape land from the waters that covered the earth.

Proceeds from the sale of this book help fund the donation of our specially designed children’s books to barbershops in at-risk communities nationwide. DERT’s social mission is to ensure that all children identify as readers by having access to books and being read to on a regular basis. Reading together is vital for all children through their preschool years and beyond. DERT publishes a unique line of books and learning tools designed to engage families in reading through all stages of life.

Description

This DERT book was designed by Cobey Lusinger, a communication design student from Marble Falls, Texas, who was a member of the Spring 2018 design team from Parsons School of Design. Because the story of The Origin of Earth has never been published before, it was important to Lusinger’s concept that the style of the illustrations pay homage to the story’s original tellers. Elements such as color, which comes in a four-color configuration in this book, are dictated by conventions such as the Cherokee sacred number of four, for example, which actually comes up several times in Origin.

This 26-page paperback is part of a social venture project to spread literacy to families in underserved communities. DERT works with emerging designers to create unique, customized books. Each DERT book features the design and conceptual artwork created by graphic design students. With each purchase, proceeds from the sale are donated to help support the cause of early childhood literacy.
